A Note From Pastor Jeremy Hein, Director of Campus Ministry
Through the collaboration of Student Council and Campus Ministry, I have the privilege to introduce the 2016-2017 school theme, FOCUS. Pastor Francis Chan has said that one of his biggest concerns about today’s youth is their “inability to focus”. There is no denying it that we live in a world that is filled with distractions and distractions are the nemesis of focus. There are so many things demanding our time and attention, often at the expense of consistent focus on Jesus Christ. The challenge of all believers is, how can we stay focused in a world of distractions?
Over the coming year our student body will examine “focal points” that will help students understand that the object of our affection and attention must be sorely be on God. Our vision must be on the centrality of Christ and our focus on Christ must not be based upon obligation or task but the overflow of joy. So Shiloh family, let us “fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:2)
Spiritual Emphasis Week
January 17-20, 2017
Each year, Shiloh Christian School takes a breath amid the busy school year to recognize that God is the center of our lives and is the center of all that we do here at Shiloh. This week is called Spiritual Emphasis Week. This year SEW will be held between January 17th-20th and will emphasize our yearly theme: FOCUS. This year we are blessed to be joined by Sheridanway and Brian Young.
Sheridanway will be our worship band and will be led by Zach Lardy, a graduate of Shiloh. Zach has a passion to lead genuine worship that centers on Christ. We are privileged to have him and his team lead our morning chapels. Click on the following links to view a video message by Zach or to listen to the worship songs we will be singing next week.
Brian Young is an internationally known speaker and author. He was a teacher and principal for ten years before becoming director of Creation Instruction Association. He has now been speaking on the topic of creation and Biblical authority for 20 years. He is involved in debates at universities, going into prisons, and sharing at churches, schools and camps around the world. He uses the Bible as the foundation for science and education. Mr. Young will engage our students in elementary chapel, afternoon middle and high school sessions and classroom lectures.
Another exciting opportunity we have in store for middle school and high school students is a “War Room.” A prayer room will be setup in the student lounge across from Mrs. Strutz's office. The "War Room" will be open daily from 7:30-3:30 for our Shiloh family to come in and pray. They will find posted scriptures, prayers, and activities at each “L-O-V-E” station. God loves it when we pray! He loves when His children spend time with Him. So let’s grow closer to Him and be blessed for it! We are also encouraging our entire Shiloh family to go the following link to download an app to get daily prayer reminders at 7:14am and 7:14pm. www.if714.com
In addition to these opportunities, we look forward to a guest speaker, Robbyn Hanstad, who is a missionary to Chain of Love orphanage in Brazil, a Thursday morning prayer breakfast for grades 6-12, and a Smoothie Day for all grade levels.
We hope our students and families make the most of these opportunities by attending Spiritual Emphasis Week activities. We are excited to see what God has in store for Shiloh during SEW, as we FOCUS on Him! Join us!
